Psychotherapist-Brianna Brunner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey, and earned an MSW from Rutgers University. She began training at the DBT Center of NJ in 2009. Brianna has extensive experience treating patients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and their families. Specializing with adolescents, and young adults who engage in self-harming behaviors. Brianna is also experienced working with couples struggling to communicate and regulate emotions within their relationship.
Other areas of clinical focus include treating Major Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Insomnia, and relationship problems. Brianna’s passion and excitement towards helping families is contagious and inspiring. Her energy and spirit combined with her clinical knowledge and experience creates a warm and engaging environment for growth.
Brianna’s formal training in DBT includes completing the 5-Day DBT Foundational Training, and Advanced DBT workshop for experienced DBT providers through Behavioral Technologies, and DBT for Couples training by Alan Fruzzeti who adapted DBT for couples. She also completed Diagnosis and Treatment for Adolescents with Borderline Personality Disorder, through the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder. Other training in empirically based treatment includes, Mindfulness Based Training at the Omega Institute, and intensive training in Schema Therapy for Personality Disorders at the NJ Institute for Schema Therapy.
Currently, Brianna provides individual DBT therapy to adolescents and young adults and is a talented DBT Skills Trainer running multiple DBT groups a week for young adults and adolescents. Brianna has been successfully adapting skills training to individuals and families in order to meet their specific needs.
Most recently, Brianna has obtained training in CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) and she has been consisdered proficient in this area by Dr. Gregg Jacobs. Brianna offers sleep coaching individually and in a group setting for clients struggling to sleep at night. Brianna has been studying to become an expert in treating Insomnia by using CBT-I.
Brianna also treats high conflict couples by using the DBT for Couples model which includes couples sessions and couples skills training group. Brianna has completed the 12-Day Imago Relationship Therapy training program and she will be receiving her certification in Imago Therapy.
Past experience includes, adapting DBT in an Intensive Outpatient Program. Brianna trained and mentored clinical staff as an Assistant Director for DBT services over 3 locations, and was the Clinical Coordinator for an Adolescent DBT Program. Brianna also provided direct clinical services including individual DBT, skills training groups and phone coaching.
Currently Brianna is not a participating member of the DBT Center Team. She still utilizes DBT skills in her practice. She also incorporates CBT and Imago techniques for individuals and couples. Brianna will be going on maternity leave in December 2019.
