Prolonged Exposure

PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY (PE) for POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)

Prolonged Exposure (PE) is a cutting-edge cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to enable trauma survivors to deal with their feelings of fear, anxiety and stress. Many survivors of accidents, assaults and natural disasters suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and continue to feel extreme anxiety and helplessness long after a traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD include sleep disturbance, difficulty concentrating, irritability, flashbacks and nightmares, extreme distress at reminders of the event, and loss of interest. PE therapy includes discussion of frightening thoughts, relaxation training, confronting safe situations and/or recall of painful memories via imagery to reduce their emotional impact.
